What is LV Battery
Description
LV battery, also known as low voltage battery, refers to a battery with a relatively low voltage, generally ranging from a few volts to tens of volts, and is used for purposes such as energy storage. In the field of energy storage, the common low-voltage batteries include the following types:
1.Lead-acid LV battery
1.1 Voltage
Common ones include 2V, 6V, 12V, etc. Multiple individual battery packs are often combined to form battery packs of different voltage levels, such as 48V, 96V, etc., for energy storage systems.
1.2 Features
The technology is mature, the cost is relatively low, it can output a large current and has good low-temperature performance, however, it has a low energy density, large volume and weight, and a relatively short cycle life, usually around 1,000 to 2,000 times, moreover, improper disposal of used batteries can cause environmental pollution.
1.3 Application
It is suitable for energy storage scenarios that are sensitive to cost and have low charging and discharging frequencies, such as small off-grid photovoltaic power stations, energy storage projects in rural areas, and some UPS backup power systems, etc.
2. Lithium iron phosphate LV battery
2.1 Voltage
The nominal voltage of a single battery is generally 3.2V. In energy storage systems, multiple cells are often connected in series to form battery packs of different voltage levels such as 12.8V, 25.6V, 48V, 51.2V, and 96V.
2.2 Features
It features high safety, good thermal stability, and a long cycle life of over 6,000 times, meanwhile, lithium iron phosphate batteries have no memory effect and are environmentally friendly. However, its energy density is relatively lower than that of ternary lithium batteries. Under the same energy storage capacity, its volume and weight are relatively larger.
2.3 Application
It is widely applied in household energy storage, small commercial energy storage systems, and some large-scale energy storage projects with high safety requirements, such as energy storage for distributed photovoltaic power generation and the energy storage part of electric vehicle charging piles.
3.NCM LV Battery
3.1 Voltage
The voltage of a single battery is usually 3.6V or 3.7V. In energy storage systems, they can be connected in series to form battery packs of different voltages such as 24V, 48V, and 72V as needed.
3.2 Features
It has a high energy density, can store more electrical energy under the same volume and weight, has a large output power, high charge and discharge efficiency, and a cycle life of generally 2,000 to 3,000 times. However, its safety is relatively poor, with insufficient stability in high-temperature environments, a risk of thermal runaway, and a high cost.
3.3 Application
It is applicable to the energy storage field with strict requirements for space and weight, and a pursuit of high energy density and high power output, such as outdoor portable energy storage devices, some high-end household energy storage systems, and some small-scale energy storage application scenarios that require rapid charging and discharging.
4.Conclusion
Usually, the voltage of the LV battery we talk about is lower than 100V,the conventional LV Battery have specifications such as 12V, 24V, 48V, 60V, etc. We choose the type of LV battery as needed and combine them in series and parallel to achieve the voltage level we require.
