What is Battery IP Grade
Description
IP Grade is a standard developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to measure the protective ability of electrical equipment enclosures against solid foreign objects and liquid intrusion. It is represented as “IPXX”, where the first number represents the dustproof level (0-6), and the second number represents the waterproof level (0-8). The higher the value, the stronger the protection ability.
1. Dust proof level (first digit)
Grade 0: Unprotected
Grade 1: Prevent the intrusion of solids larger than 50mm
Grade 2: Prevent the intrusion of solids larger than 12mm
Grade 3: Prevent the intrusion of solids larger than 2.5mm
Grade 4: Prevent the intrusion of solids larger than 1mm
Grade 5: Dustproof (allows a small amount of dust to enter, but does not affect operation)
Grade 6: Dust tight (completely preventing dust from entering)
2. Waterproof rating (second digit)
Level 0: Unprotected
Level 1: Protection against vertical dripping
Level 2: Prevent 15 ° tilting drip
Level 3: Anti spray water (angle<60 °)
Level 4: Anti flying and splash water (in any direction)
Level 5: Anti low pressure water spray (nozzle in any direction)
Level 6: Anti strong water spray
Level 7: Protection against short-term immersion (1 meter water depth, 30 minutes)
Level 8: Anti continuous soaking (indefinite soaking under specific pressure)
3.Common application scenarios
IP Grade 20:General indoor applications (such as home energy storage systems) do not require much protection
IP Grade 54:General outdoor equipment (such as ordinary lamps), dust-proof and splash proof.
IP Grade 67:Electric vehicle batteries, diving equipment, dust-proof and can be soaked for a short period of time.
IP Grade 68:High end waterproof equipment (such as deep-sea instruments and some mobile phones) can be soaked for a long time.
4.Matters needing attention
The IP grade only applies to the protection of the casing,if the casing is physically damaged (such as cracks), the protection may fail, and the protection level of the charging interface may be reduced in a separated state. The IP rating can quickly determine the environmental adaptability of the battery or device, and the selection should be based on the usage scenario (such as high level protection required in humid and dusty environments).
