Single Phase Inverter VS Three Phase Inverter

Single Phase Inverter VS Three Phase Inverter

In the selection of inverters,we usually choose single phase inverter or three phase inverter, let’s understand the specific differences between these two types of inverters.

1.Output feature

Output phase:A single phase inverter outputs single phase AC power, such as common AC 220V or 230V,with only one phase voltage and current, the interface usually has three sockets, labeled as “N” (neutral wire), “L” (live wire),and “PE” (ground wire),three phase inverter outputs three phase AC power, such as AC 380V or 400V,consisting of three AC potentials with the same frequency, equal amplitude, and phase difference of 120 ° in sequence, the interface has five holes, namely A, B, C (three-phase live wire), N (neutral wire),and PE (ground wire).

Output Power:Generally single phase inverter have low power and are commonly used for low power loads or single phase power supply systems, such as households and small commercial places, the power range is usually around 1kW to 15kW,three phase inverter have high power and are suitable for high-power loads and three phase power supply systems such as large commercial buildings, industrial plants, etc,the power range is usually from 10kW to megawatts.

2.Circuit structure

Single Phase:The structure is relatively simple, mainly composed of filtering circuit, inverter circuit, and output circuit.

Three Phase:The structure is relatively complex, usually consisting of multiple parts such as input filter, rectifier, intermediate DC link, inverter, and output filter.

3.Application

Single Phase:Suitable for independent power systems in small residential buildings, small commercial buildings, and remote areas, supplying single phase loads such as household lighting, water heaters, and small appliances,it is also commonly used in small solar power generation systems, household UPS power supplies, etc.

Three Phase:It is mainly used in large commercial buildings, industrial facilities,large-scale solar power plants connected to the power grid, and occasions that require high power output, such as large electric motors, air conditioning systems, production lines, etc,it is also widely used in hybrid systems of wind and solar power generation and grid side energy storage systems.

4.Performance characteristics

Efficiency:In general, three phase inverter have higher efficiency in high-power applications, reaching over 96%,and even up to 98%,the efficiency of single phase inverter can also reach over 95%,but as the power increases, the efficiency may slightly decrease, and compared to three-phase inverters, the efficiency may be slightly lower at the same power.

Stability:The balance of the three phase power system is better, the power quality output by the three phase is higher, the voltage and current fluctuations are smaller, and it can provide more stable power output, single phase may have power quality issues in certain situations, such as voltage fluctuations and high harmonic content.

5.Installation and maintenance

Installation:The single phase has a small volume and is relatively easy to install and maintain,it can be completed by the owner or a small installation team, three phase inverters have a large volume and a complex installation process, usually requiring a professional installation team.

Maintenance:Single phase inverters have low maintenance requirements and usually only require regular inspections and cleaning, due to its complex structure, high power, and high maintenance requirements, three phase inverters may require regular professional inspections and maintenance, and also have high technical requirements for maintenance personnel.
