Sine Wave Inverter and Square Wave Inverter Difference

Sine Wave Inverter and Square Wave Inverter Difference

There are the following differences between sine wave inverters and square wave inverters:

1.Output waveform

Sine wave inverter: The output waveform is a sine wave, which is basically consistent with the AC waveform of the mains power.

Square wave inverter: The output waveform is a square wave, with positive and negative peak values generated almost simultaneously, and the waveform is in the form of rectangular pulses.

2.Working principle

By simulating pure AC power and utilizing techniques such as PWM (Pulse Width Modulation),the conduction and turn off of semiconductor power switching devices are controlled to convert DC electrical energy into sinusoidal AC electrical energy.

Square wave inverter: Usually, direct current is input into the inverter and controlled by simple switching of transistors or field-effect transistors to quickly switch the output voltage between positive and negative levels, thereby forming a square wave output.

3.Performance characteristics

Power quality: The sine wave inverter has a good output waveform, low distortion, and can provide high-quality power output without harmonics or electromagnetic interference, square wave inverters generate a large amount of harmonics due to irregular waveforms, resulting in poor power quality.

Load capacity: Sine wave inverters are suitable for various loads, including inductive loads, capacitive loads, and resistive loads, square wave inverters have poor load capacity and can generally only carry loads of 40% -60% of rated power, and cannot carry inductive loads.

Efficiency: The conversion efficiency of sine wave inverters is relatively high, generally reaching over 85%,the efficiency of square wave inverters is relatively low, usually around 70% -80%.

The impact on the load: The sine wave inverter has little damage to the load and the inverter itself, and can protect and extend the service life of electrical equipment, square wave inverters may cause additional losses and heat generation in the load, shorten their service life, and even damage some devices that require high power supply.

4.Cost

Sine wave inverter: complex circuit structure, requiring high control chips and technology, high manufacturing cost, relatively expensive price.

Square wave inverter: The circuit structure is simple, the production process requirements are low,the cost is relatively low,and the price is relatively cheap.

5.Application

Suitable for occasions with high requirements for power quality, such as medical equipment, communication equipment, precision instruments, home theaters, etc.,as well as various occasions that require stable AC power supply.

Square wave inverter: suitable for occasions with low power requirements and simple loads, such as some simple electric tools, incandescent lamps, etc.
