12.8V Lithium Battery VS 12V AGM Battery

12.8V Lithium Battery VS 12V AGM Battery

With the promotion of the market and the advancement of technology, there are currently 12.8V lithium batteries and 12V Agm batteries on the market, the comparison between the two batteries is as follows:

1.Working principle and structure

12.8V lithium battery: relies on the insertion and extraction of lithium ions between the positive and negative electrodes to achieve energy storage and release, using lithium metal or lithium compounds as the negative electrode, such as lithium iron phosphate, ternary lithium and other materials as the positive electrode, combined with non-aqueous solution or polymer electrolyte.

12V AGM battery: a type of lead-acid battery that uses lead and lead dioxide as electrodes, sulfuric acid as electrolyte, and glass fiber membranes to adsorb the sulfuric acid electrolyte, preventing it from flowing.

2.Performance

Energy Density

12.8V lithium battery: High energy density, typically 120-180Wh/kg or even higher, capable of storing more electrical energy in a smaller volume and weight.

12V AGM battery: has a lower energy density, generally between 25-30Wh/kg, and is larger in size and weight at the same level of charge.

Cycle Life12.8V Lithium Battery VS 12V AGM Battery

12.8V lithium battery: with a long cycle life of over 3000 times, some high-quality lithium batteries can reach 4000-15000 times.

12V AGM battery: The cycle life is generally 500-1200 times, and the service life is usually 3-5 years.

Charge-discharge efficiency

12.8V lithium battery: High charging and discharging efficiency,up to 90% -95% or more, fast charging speed, can quickly replenish electrical energy.

12V AGM battery: The charging and discharging efficiency is around 70% -85%, the charging speed is slow, and the self discharge rate is relatively high.

Output voltage stability:

12.8V lithium battery: It can maintain a relatively stable output voltage during discharge and provide stable power for equipment.

12V AGM battery: The voltage drops relatively significantly after discharge, and the voltage stability is slightly poor.

3.Safety and Environmental Protection

Lithium: There is a risk of fire and explosion under extreme conditions such as overcharging, overdischarging, short circuit, or high temperature, and a comprehensive battery management system is needed, does not contain harmful heavy metals such as lead, relatively environmentally friendly, but lithium resources also need to be reasonably recycled.

AGM: Relatively safe, generally does not explode when there is no acid leakage, but improper charging can produce hydrogen gas, which poses a risk of explosion, contains heavy metal lead, improper recycling and disposal can pollute the environment.

4.Cost

Lithium: high technological content, complex production process, high material cost, relatively expensive, and may be 1-3 times or even higher than AGM batteries under the same capacity.

AGM: Mature materials and manufacturing processes, low cost, and relatively affordable price.
