LiFePO4 Battery, also known as lithium iron phosphate battery, is a lithium-ion battery with lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) as the cathode material and carbon as the anode material.

1.Working principle

During charging, lithium ions are detached from the lithium iron phosphate cathode material, pass through the separator through the electrolyte, and are embedded in the negative electrode carbon material, while electrons flow from the positive electrode to the negative electrode through an external circuit to maintain the charge balance,the discharge process is the opposite, where lithium ions are detached from the anode material and embedded into the positive electrode material through the diaphragm, and electrons flow from the negative electrode to the positive electrode through an external circuit, thus releasing electrical energy.

2.Structural composition

Electrolyte: It plays the role of conducting lithium ions inside the battery, so that the lithium ions can migrate smoothly between the positive and negative electrodes to complete the charging and discharging process. Wide operating temperature range: It can operate effectively in a temperature range of -20°C to 60°C, and some specially designed batteries can be used even in a wider temperature range.

4.Disadvantages

Relatively low energy density: Compared with some other lithium-ion batteries, its energy density is low, and the volume and weight are relatively large under the same power, which limits its use in some application scenarios with extremely high space and weight requirements to a certain extent.

Low-temperature performance needs to be improved: In a low-temperature environment, the performance of the battery will be reduced, such as reduced charging and discharging efficiency, reduced battery capacity, etc., and additional heating or insulation measures may be required.

High initial cost: Factors such as the production process and raw material cost of lithium iron phosphate batteries lead to a relatively high initial purchase price, but from the perspective of long-term use cost, the overall cost may be advantageous due to its long life and other characteristics.
